              Amiralens Storband (The Admiral Bigband.)

The Admiral Big Band was founded in 1971 initiated by the pianist Stig Frölander. The same year as the Swedish legendary big band leader Harry Arnold passed away. Most of the musicians chosen had all been playing in the Harry Arnold Band at the legendary ballroom “AMIRALEN” (The Admiral) in Malmö. Not least than 6 musicians from the beginning 1971 are still members of the band. In early 1973 their opening performance took place in Amiralen for a more than thousandheaded audience.

The band has over the 40 years of activity become a ponderous institution of the bigband culture and swing tradition in south of Sweden. On the 26th of Februari 2011 the band performed a 40 years celebration concert at The Palladium in Malmö for a full house audience.

The Band was lead by Stig Frölander during almost 20 years until his far too early death in 1991. His vast number of arrangements and transcriptions for the band are warrant for the remembrance of him for a long time ahead.

In 1991 Anders Åhlin took over the musical leadership. Anders is since many years back musician, conductor, arranger and orchestra leader inside a wide field. He has also during 35 years been active as Senior Lecturer of Eartraining and Music Production at The Malmö Academy of Music, Lund University.

Extensive  Repertoire.

The extensive repertoire is numbered to a bit over 500 titles from the 40-, 50- and 60-ies, scored by the most distinguished arrangers in Sweden, Great Britain and USA. According to personal permission from Harry Arnold´s wife the right to use and perform Harry´s original arrangements became authorized for the band in 1993.
